Snow Storage Is the Real Constance Bay Snow Removal Problem
On most Ottawa properties, clearing a driveway is a moving problem. In Constance Bay it is a storage problem. The lots were cut for cottages, so there is no deep front lawn to absorb four months of piles, and the neighbouring lot is close enough that pushing it sideways is somebody else’s driveway. With the mid-winter snowpack averaging 21 cm and February running 14.2 days with 20 cm or more still on the ground, nothing you move in January leaves before spring. So the first thing we do on a Bay property is decide where the season’s snow is going to live: which corner can take a pile without blocking a sightline at the road, which side keeps meltwater away from the foundation and the walkway, and at what point in a heavy winter the pile has to be relocated or hauled off the property entirely rather than stacked higher.
