Why Blackburn Hamlet Driveways Run Out of Snow Storage First
Ottawa has at least 1 cm of snow on the ground about 115 days a year, and the mid-winter snowpack averages 21 cm. Snow does not leave between storms here, it stacks. On a wide rural frontage that is manageable. On a Blackburn Hamlet crescent, where the frontage is narrow and the driveway is a car or two deep, the bank has nowhere to grow but inward. By midwinter the usable width has shrunk by a good margin on each side and the car is being parked at an angle to fit. That is why we scope the stacking room before we scope the driveway, and why relocating the pile is planned into the route rather than argued about in February.
